CIMS is glad to announce a new DICIS event, one around space and place, media and film historiography, and digital humanities. It’s an honor that one of the leading scholars in the field of the spatial dimensions of cinema, Prof. Jeffrey Klenotic (U of New Hampshire, US; Mapping Movies), accepted the invitation for a special double bill event in Ghent.
On the 14th of March, 2017 (9.00 – 11.15 a.m.; Universiteitstraat, aula NBIII) Jeff Klenotic will give an open public lecture on space and place in communication and media history. As part of the broad consideration of spatial history, this talk will focus upon how digital methods might alter/inform our historical understanding of communication technologies and culture.
The day afterwards, on the 15th of March (9.30 a.m - 5 p.m.; Korte Meer 11, V1), Jeff will organize a hands-on workshop on the use of GIS for cinema and film studies. The first session (morning) gives a review of a variety of GIS tools, whereas the second, hands-on session (afternoon) will be devoted to allowing workshop participants to explore these tools using their own data.
Please contact Lennart Soberon (Lennart.Soberon@UGent.be) and/or Daniel Biltereyst Daniel.Biltereyst@UGent.be) if you would like to be present and participate to this workshop. For more information on these events and on the DICIS network, see here.
